Chapter 9

When I got to Kevin's hotel room, he was still asleep, dressed only in a pair of sweat pants. I stood at the foot of the bed, not knowing what else to do. I just looked at him. There was a lock of black hair over his eyes; I wanted to see the emerald eyes that I knew lurked under there.

I don't know how long I stood there, just watching Kevin sleep. But before I knew it, he was awake.

"Jezy?" he asked confused. That's a special nickname and only Kevin is allowed to use it. He propped himself up on his elbows.

"Hey."

"How did you get here?"

"Meredith." At least, that name explained it.

"Oh."

I sat down on the foot of the bed.

"I heard you got your appendix removed," I said.

"Yeah. Do you want to see the scar?"

"Sure," I replied, hoping the shock didn't show on my face.

I was surprised though. I knew that appendix scars were sort of far down on the torso and you don't just let anyone see them. Brian refused to show his scar.

Kevin tossed back the blankets and moved towards me. He pulled down the edge of his sweats to expose the scar. I looked at it. It wasn't very big.

"You had a good doctor."

"Yeah. Do you want to touch it."

I looked at him in surprise and he nodded. As I touched the beginning of the scar, he said,

"Why did you come here? It wasn't just to see my scar."

"Why?" I repeated as I continued to trace the scar.

"Yes," he whispered.

"Kevin," I said as I reached the end of the scar.

"Yes," he whispered again. His concentration was elsewhere. I realized where when he placed his left hand on my back. Very slowly, it moved up my back to my neck. I looked into his eyes. Beautiful eyes.

"We're soulmates," I said simply.

"Soulmates?"

"Yes."

Everything seemed to go in slow motion as we moved towards each other. When out lips finally touched, I knew it had been worth the wait. Kevin's lips were sweet and the kiss amazing. Before I knew it, I was in.

I was in his memories. That's what happens with soulmates. You can go into each other's memories. I saw memories of his childhood, Christmases and birthdays and baseball games. In high school, there were football games, plays, and friends. Moving to Florida. His dad dying. Him coming back to Florida. I saw the group forming and then his memories were filled with me. Meeting me, me teaching him what he needed to know.

After the kiss ended, we laid in each other's arms for awhile. Then Nick came in.

"Kevin, we're supposed to leave in half an hour," he said and then noticed me. "Whoa. Jezebel, what are you doing here?"

"Nick, don't you think if the door's locked you shouldn't come in?" Kevin said, frustration in his voice.

"Donna gave me the key," Nick told him but then directed his question at me. "What are you doing here?"

"We're soulmates. Get out."

Nick's eyes grew wide.

"You and Kevin?"

Yes. Get out. And lock the door."

Nick left the room and locked the door.

"So I guess we only have half an hour," Kevin said, pulling me a little closer and brushing some hair away from my face.

"We have more time than that," I told him.

"How?"

I sat up and turned towards the clock.

"This is to be done by the power of Hecate, she who is all powerful and all good. She says for all else to stop."

After uttering a few more words in Latin, I turned back to Kevin and flashed him a smile.

"Mission accomplished."

"What'd you do?"

"Froze time."

He flashed me a brilliant smile and pulled me back towards him. I say on top and straddled his hips. Kevin placed his hands on my waist.

"How much time do we have?" he asked, his hands running over my back.

"As much time as we need."

He grinned and brought my lips down to meet his.
